Why eggs? Well - way back, Eastre was a goddess of dawn, spring
and fertility, associated with the hare and the egg. Over time,
the more common (not to mention fertile) rabb it knocked the hare
out of pole position and the Easter Bunny was born. As for the egg,
Near Eastern civilizations had been dyeing them as part of pagan
rituals since the dawn of time.
The respective Bunny and Egg traditions evolved, and sort of got
lumped together in much the same way London and Olympics did. Blame
a restless marketing department, but the spelling changed too.
Forward to our modern Easter lore and the bunnies are laying eggs.
The Easter Rabbit is widely regarded as male, by the way, but away
with logistics. It’s a free world. Let m ale rabbits lay eggs.
Let hens rouse us with their morning doodle-doos.
Who cares, as long as there’s chocolate?

Thank heavens for liberation!
It was a while ago, but we still marvel at how scandalous it used
to be for women to show an ankle. In Washington, the Old Senate
Chamber had "modesty drapes" on the balcony to hide women's
ankles from the view of men on the Senate fl oor.
What state would men have been in if they’d only glanced down
